Transcon is assisting as a third-party Compliance Inspection Contractor for this 1,000-mile transmission line in Wyoming and Idaho. Aeolus to Jim Bridger is a complex project, containing numerous archaeological sites, habitat for many protected plant and animal species, and paleontologically sensitive areas. Transcon provides specialized resource support relative to biological, cultural, paleontological, and geological resources and performs inspection monitoring on behalf of the Bureau of Land Management.
Transcon assists PG&E with review of biological and cultural services, land rights, hazardous materials, water quality constraints, and compliance. We have been successfully working on this program and its predecessor for over 7 years now. This program involves up to 40 scientists, field technicians, GIS analysists, and project managers at any given time.
This project included construction of a 12-mile water pipeline, a water storage tank, and associated facilities on lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management, Utah School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration, Washington County Water Conservancy District, and private owners in Utah. The project area contains several federally-listed species and formal consultation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service was required. Transcon worked closely with the USFWS, BLM, and WCWCD to develop unique mitigation measures to minimize impacts to desert tortoise as well as sensitive cultural and paleontological resources.
This wind farm is the largest in Utah and was the first of its size on federal lands. Its construction received nationwide recognition. The wind farm consists of 164 wind turbines, a 15-acre electrical substation, approximately 9.6 miles of buried electrical line, 29 miles of access road development, a 5-acre batch plant, and an operations and maintenance yard/building. The wind farm provides approximately 204 megawatts of clean energy. The project also included the construction of an 88-mile, 345-kilovolt transmission line between Milford and Delta, Utah. Transcon checked the construction area for kit fox and burrowing owl, two sensitive species in Utah.
